Festival di Woodstock (1969): storia
Il festival di Woodstock fu una masifestazione che ebbe luogo dal 15 al 18 agosto del 1969, la sua risonanza fu mondiale, perchè mai i suoi organizzatori, Michael Lang, John P. Roberts, Joel Rosenman e Artie Kornfeld, avrebbero immaginato tanto successo e così tante adesioni. Tutto iniziò da un semplice annuncio sul giornale, pubblicato da Roberts e Rosenman, che citava più o meno così: “Uomini giovani con capitale illimitato cercano interessanti opportunità, legali, di investimento e proposte d’affari”, Lang e Kornfeld li contattarono con la proposta di creare uno studio di registrazione nel villaggio di Woodstock, nella contea di Ulster dello stato di New York. La proposta dello studio di registrazione si modificò ben presto nell’ambizioso progetto di organizzare un mega festival musicale e artistico che avrebbe dovuto accogliere circa 50.000 persone. La location era già stata scelta, ma il concerto fu definitivamente vietato, in seguito all’opposizione degli abitanti che non voleva un “gruppo di drogati” sul luogo. La location definitiva fu quindi, Bethel, della contea di Sullivan, una cittadina rurale 69 km a sud-ovest di Woodstock. Il festival di Woodstock, nato come “An Aquarian Exposition” radunò oltre 500.000 persone e artisti del calibro di Jimmy Handrix.

Sebbene gli organizzatori non si aspettassero una tale adesione (più di 500.000 persone), dalla vendita dei biglietti avevano intuito che le previsioni sarebbero state oltre il previsto, quindi si erano adoperati per trovare una location abbastanza grande, ma ciò non impedì la generazione di disagi di ordine pubblico, causati da orde di giovani che già il giorno prima si erano accampati nel grande prato, mentre altri avevano abbandonato le auto per strada, tanto che per far spostare gli artisti dall’hotel al parco, fu noleggiato un aereo. Il festival iniziò ufficialmente Venerdì 15 agosto, intorno alle 17, quando Richie Havens salì sul palco e decretando ufficialmente l’esordio della rassegna più importante della storia della musica rock.
